Welcome to Well Wessex
We are a collaboration of compassionate mental health organisations in Somerset.
By leading on mental health provision in Somerset, we work to create wellbeing for local communities through activities, events, training and by working in partnership with others.
1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health problem this year.
Through the projects we support we offer places, activities, training and support which help connect communities so that YOU have somewhere to turn.
Awareness
We use a variety of tools to support people and build awareness to promote good mental health and wellbeing
Training
The Well Wessex Group work together to provide a suite of training for individuals, groups, businesses and professional services
Local
We co-ordinate several local projects, and each project organises, funds, hosts or otherwise enables many further projects – each offering art, skills, activities, learning and other resources to improve mental health.
Connected
Our work is made possible through partnerships. We are funded by, supported and deliver our work together with many organisations both local and national.
Our Aims
We would like mental health services in Somerset to be more cohesive so that no one has to wait for help.
We want organisations to think about the way they speak, act and support mental health across different ages, groups and backgrounds. We want everyone to feel included and gain opportunities to support their own wellbeing.
We would like every town in Somerset to have a community hub where people who are well or not so well, can walk in for help and advice and meet people who have lived experience of similar mental health issues.
How We Work
Well Wessex supports four organisations across Somerset.
Together we present integrated solutions for our local communities and support them to improve mental wellbeing for all.

Chard Watch
Chard Watch is the county lead for peer support training – this enables their message to be rolled out to a much greater number of people who can benefit from their lived experience and evolve ways of coping with mental health challenges.

Creativity Works
Creative courses with professional artists and activities aimed at those facing mental health difficulties. We would like to be able to share this expert guidance in how engaging in creativity can make huge changes in wellbeing and positive mental health.

Heads Up
Vanessa Gordon who is based at Heads Up, Wells is an expert in Training for good practice in Mental Health in the Workplace and at schools. Heads Up helps people who are more severely unwell and also has huge experience in working with people with dementia

The Balsam Centre
Offers a multigenerational approach, working with mum’s suffering from post natal depression, through the children’s groups, buggy walks, ‘conkers’ the nursery based at the centre, youth groups, a café, health walks, art and craft classes, a games club, a programming course and a Men’s Shed. Showing what a great community can look like. The Balsam Centre is a blueprint for a warm and healing community hub.
